Scouting Report. RHP. Kyle Gibson. 126. Pick Analysis. Texas Rangers. 2. player

Kyle Gibson is in the midst of a career year for the non-contending Rangers

He is not going to come cheap, but the Texas Rangers could make starting pitcher Kyle Gibson available at the trade deadline. The longtime Minnesota Twins right-hander is in his second season of a three-year deal with Texas. While the Rangers have not pushed for the postseason in either of the seasons he has been in Arlington, Gibson is fresh off his first All-Star Game nod.

On the year, Gibson is 6-3 in 19 starts with a 2.87 ERA and a 1.177 WHIP. He has recorded 94 strikeouts in 113 innings pitched, while walking 41 batters. Gibson may be in his mid-30s, but he is in the midst of his prime on the mound. Of course, if the Red Sox were to trade for him, they would have to give up a handful of prospects because his trade value is at an all-time high now.

Gibson would not only augment the Red Sox’s rotation this year, but he would be on the roster next year as well. He will not be hitting free agency until winter 2023 ahead of his age-35 season out of Missouri. Again, trading for him would signify the Red Sox believe this is more than a career-year out of Gibson. Should he be traded to Boston, the Red Sox may have to give up a ton for him.

Gibson is not just a short-term solution to the Red Sox rotation, but possibly a long-term one.
