The San Francisco Giants have traded for Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant.

After spending his entire MLB career with the Chicago Cubs, third baseman Kris Bryant has been dealt to the San Francisco Giants at the trade deadline.

Bryant was the very last piece of the Cubs’ core to be traded ahead of the deadline. With Anthony Rizzo going to the New York Yankees, Craig Kimbrel moving across town to the Chicago White Sox and Javy Baez now playing under the bright lights with the New York Mets, it was only a matter of time before Bryant was heading elsewhere. For now, he is heading back to his native West Coast.

Here is what a projected Giants starting lineup could look like with Bryant a prominent part of it.

San Francisco Giants projected lineup after trading for Kris Bryant

  1. RF Mike Yastrzemski
  2. C Buster Posey
  3. 3B Kris Bryant
  4. LF Alex Dickerson
  5. 1B Darin Ruf
  6. 2B Donovan Solano
  7. SS Brandon Crawford
  8. CF Steven Duggar

The Giants already use a ton of lineups as is, so the batting order could be changed almost daily. One would expect Bryant to start at third base for the Giants and hit somewhere in the top half of the order. He may be hitting behind franchise cornerstone Buster Posey but could be slotted anywhere from second to fourth in the San Francisco batting order. He provides them flexibility.

The Giants will continue their push for NL West supremacy after trading for Bryant at the deadline.
