1. Andrew Heaney will start a playoff game

The Yankees’ acquisition of Heaney has largely flown under the radar in comparison to the trades for Gallo and Rizzo. Underestimating his potential impact for New York down the stretch would be a major mistake.

The team’s rotation has struggled mightily with inconsistency behind ace Gerrit Cole. It’s unclear who would start the team’s second postseason game if they are able to qualify for the playoffs.

The bold prediction here is that Heaney finds a way to work his way into the team’s top trio of starters before the postseason. His 5.27 ERA on the season doesn’t impress anyone at first glance, but his underlying numbers give the Yankees cause for optimism. In particular. his FIP of just 4.05 on the campaign gives him a strong chance to improve the surface numbers in the Bronx.

The fact that he’s left-handed also gives him a leg up in the race to secure a postseason start. The Yankees will want to balance out their playoff rotation with a southpaw behind Cole. If Heaney can outperform Jordan Montgomery he’s got a great chance to start the second game of any potential Yankees’ playoff series.
