Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. QB, Bears. . Nick Foles. 1.. player. 57

The optimism surrounding Wentz’s arrival in Indianapolis, and reuniting with Frank Reich, also applies to Foles at a lower level as a fit. During the Eagles’ title run in 2017, Foles had a great run himself (when Wentz was injured) all the way to winning Super Bowl MVP with Reich as the offensive coordinator.

The Bears inexplicably traded for Foles in March of 2020, bailing the Jaguars out of the bad contract they gave him a year earlier, and Mitch Trubisky performed poorly enough to open the door for him to play. Then, as expected, Foles was bad enough himself to allow Trubisky to get the starting job back.

The Bears signed Andy Dalton in free agency, then they moved up to draft Justin Fields. So Foles is now an expensive third-string quarterback, with a path to play only in a doomsday scenario. As mediocre as he is, any team in need of experience on their depth chart (the New York Jets are easily mentioned) could do worse than looking to make a move for Foles. The Bears aren’t likely to cut him, since they’d gain nothing in cap space by doing so.

Everything depends on what’s revealed with Wentz’s foot, and his subsequent return timeline. But if the Colts decide to go with Eason in Wentz’s place, Foles would particularly be an ideal (albeit expensive) backup. He’s No. 1 on this list, if only by default due to his experience in Reich’s offense.
