Despite all their offseason moves, the NBA bookmakers are not all that impressed by what the Los Angeles Lakers have done this summer.

Even if they are winning big in free agency, that does not mean the Los Angeles Lakers will win it all next NBA season.

After trading for Russell Westbrook and signing players of note like Carmelo Anthony and Malik Monk in free agency, the Lakers are still not the favorite to win the 2022 NBA Finals. Given that it is undeniably a championship-or-bust season for the Lakers, we have to wonder why the oddsmakers are not all-in on Los Angeles for next season. They should be good, but how good?

Here are the latest 2021-22 NBA championship odds. Odds are courtesy of WynnBET.

Los Angeles Lakers updated title odds after free agency moves

  • Brooklyn Nets: +225
  • Los Angeles Lakers: +300
  • Milwaukee Bucks: +750
  • Golden State Warriors: +1000

The latest championship odds have the Brooklyn Nets favored to win it all next year at +225. While the Lakers are projected to come out of the Western Conference, they trail Brooklyn with their +300 odds. Brooklyn is expected to beat this year’s NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals, with the Lakers beating the Golden State Warriors out West in 2022.

What this all comes down to is the bookmakers like the Nets’ big three of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving over the Lakers’ new big three of Anthony Davis, LeBron James and Westbrook. Again, the Nets are only slightly better than the Lakers when it comes to the oddsmakers. However, them favoring Brooklyn over Los Angeles certainly speaks volumes.

After a small-market 2021 NBA Finals, the league will love to see Brooklyn take on Los Angeles.
