Cubs prospect to promote: Greg Deichmann

One of the many trades the Cubs made at the trade deadline was sending relief pitcher Andrew Chafin to the Oakland Athletics. Chicago received two players in return, one of them being outfield prospect Greg Deichmann. With MLB.com listing Deichmann’s ETA as 2021, he would be the perfect option to receive a promotion to the major league roster.

Deichmann was a second-round pick by the Athletics in the 2017 MLB Draft, and ranked as the organization’s ninth-overall prospect in the farm system entering 2021. Now, he sits as the No. 2 prospect in Chicago’s minor league system.

Following the 2020 minor league season being canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Deichmann has been thriving in Triple-A this year. Through 60 games with the Las Vegas Aviators,. the outfielder is slashing .300/.433/.452 while posting four home runs, 35 RBI, 48 runs scored and 63 hits. Deichmann has played in seven games with the Chicago’s Triple-A affiliate, the Iowa Cubs.

If the Cubs were to give any prospect a shot at playing in Wrigley Field this season, it should be Deichmann based off his performance in Triple-A this year.
