Braves should sign Starling Marte

Marte would be open to a short-term deal in Atlanta, and is already familiar with NL East pitching thanks to his time with the Miami Marlins. He was traded at the deadline to Oakland, who is unlikely to spend big to keep him this offseason. Marte was a clear rental, but the Braves can give him at the very least a multi-year deal.

At 32 years old, Marte is no longer the exciting young player he once was, but he can still make some noise on the basepaths and hits near a .300 clip. That’s far better than what the Braves are getting from their outfield at the moment, even after trading for Jorge Soler and Adam Duvall.

With Acuña out potentially well into next season, Marte is a good backup plan in center and/or right field. Cristian Pache isn’t ready, and the Braves don’t seem willing to rely on Drew Waters, either.

Marte is the answer, if the Braves truly want to take another step next season.
