The St. Louis Cardinals can make a push for the 2022 World Series by making a serious investment into their pitching staff.

The Cardinals aren’t going to compete for the 2021 World Series. They’re third place in the NL Central and nowhere near the wild card spots.

So why not look ahead to what 2022 might hold?

St. Louis could become a World Series contender by taking advantage of a loaded free-agent class for 2022.

Sign a bonafide ace

The Cardinals need to get serious about their pitching staff. At the traded deadline, they targeted innings. Now it’s time to find an ace to lead the team to the postseason.

No one will hold more value than Noah Syndergaard going into free agency. The 28-year-old is coming off a Tommy John surgery, but he still has All-Star ability.

St. Louis has been floated as a trade destination for Syndergaard in the past. This is the chance to finally bring him in.

If not Syndergaard, then his Mets teammate Marcus Stroman is another option. So is Clayton Kershaw, though his age at 34 would be a concern.

The key is to go out and get a lead arm. There are good ones on the market capable of headlining a World Series-level rotation.
