Cubs should sign Marcus Stroman

Stroman is hoping to cash in on a long-term contract after this season, and his stats back up that assertion. On the season, Stroman has a 2.83 ERA and 1.134 WHIP after taking a year off due to COVID-19 concerns.

One look at the Cubs rotation suggests they need a lot of help. Contreras can call a game with the best of them, and he has a former catcher in manager David Ross to help him out in that regard. Yet, behind Hendriks…who exactly can they turn to? Zach Davies, Adbert Alzolay, Jake Arrieta and Alec Mills just aren’t cutting it.

The one thing holding back Stroman to the Cubs is the financial factor. Will the Ricketts’ family really pay up for a talent like this? And if so, will it limit the rotational depth minus Hendriks and Stroman? If the Cubs need other options, look for them to take a chance on a proven veteran like Charlie Morton, or even Stroman’s teammate Noah Syndergaard, who has had injury concerns the last few years.

Either way, pitching is the answer, and Stroman would be a tremendous fit on the North Side of Chicago.
