Red Sox might not bring Adam Ottavino back

The trade for Adam Ottavino, which occurred before the start of the 2021 regular season, initially looked like a major win for Chaim Bloom. Outside of a two-game stint against his former team, the New York Yankees, Ottavino has been pretty solid.

Ironically enough, it’s that Yankees series that could be the difference between Boston making the playoffs, or watching from home. A near-4 ERA is decent for a back-end reliever, but given Ottavino’s track record and how much he might demand on the open market, expect Boston to be hesitant, if not altogether uninterested, in bringing back the right-hander.
