Red Sox could cut Martin Perez loose

The Red Sox starting rotation has been lacking big-time, and as a result Alex Cora has made some changes. First, Garrett Richards was demoted, making room for Tanner Houck. Next, ace Chris Sale was called up and will make his first start in two years come Saturday.

Martin Perez doesn’t fit into the long-term plans in Boston. He’s a serviceable right-handed pitcher, but doesn’t offer much in terms of velocity or potential. His near-5 ERA leaves much to be desired, and when he hits free agency this offseason, you can expect Bloom to let Perez walk without much of a fight.
