Giants keep Brandon Crawford in the Bay with contract extension
By Mark Powell
The San Francisco Giants have signed shortstop Brandon Crawford to a two-year contract extension.
Crawford’s extension is for $32 million, per Alex Pavlovic of NBC San Francisco.
This takes Crawford’s name out of what’s expected to be a loaded shortstop free agent class, including the likes of Javy Baez, Trevor Story and Carlos Correa. On the season, Crawford is hitting .296 with 17 home runs and 69 RBIs. Having arguably the best offensive season of his career, Crawford cashed out in a big way, staying with the only team he’s every known.
San Francisco Giants: Brandon Crawford contract no longer looming
For the Giants, they can now devote their sole focus on the NL West standings, where they currently hold a five-game lead on the defending World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Crawford has credited the Giants’ hitting coaches with his improvement at the plate in 2021. Whatever is to blame, perhaps he owes San Francisco’s coaching staff a dinner of two.
A three-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, Crawford hopes to add to his trophy case this fall with the Giants. Come this offseason, he can upgrade said trophy case.
