Bears fans ready to build a Justin Fields statue after first TD run (Video)
By John Buhler
Every Chicago Bears fan in the world wants to commission a Justin Fields statue yesterday.
The fact Chicago Bears fans have not commissioned a Justin Fields statue yet is beyond all of us.
For the first time probably ever, the Bears are not at a disadvantage at the quarterback position. Hyperbole or not, Bears fans could not have been more excited to see the No. 11 overall pick hit pay dirt on the Miami Dolphins in their preseason opener. People in Chicagoland have officially started naming their cats and dogs Justin because he is the greatest thing to ever happen to them.
It is not quite the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series, but Chicagoland is about to be lit tonight.
Chicago Bears fans react as expected to Justin Fields’ first rushing touchdown
If Fields is not the Week 1 starter for the Bears, then head coach Matt Nagy should be fired on the spot and forced to walk into Lake Michigan.
Fields gives the Bears something Andy Dalton and Nick Foles cannot, which is inherent mobility once the play breaks down.
While his predecessor Mitchell Trubisky could run a bit as well, as least Fields is capable of averaging his wingspan when it comes to yards per attempt in an NFL game, preseason or not.
Overall, there has not been this much optimism surrounding the Bears since the 1985 NFL season. But instead of William “The Refrigerator” Perry bursting through the goal line, Chicago has a quarterback who can lead them to the promised land multiple times in the years to come. This is not an overreaction when you know it is true. The sooner Fields gets a statue, the better we’ll be.
Not even the Bears can find a way to ruin its most transcendent talent at quarterback of all time.
