Ranking the top 20 college football coaches for 2021
7. Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M
Though he left Florida State in a state of disarray that has only gotten worse, Jimbo Fisher’s departure for Texas A&M came with the promise that the Aggies would reach new highs and be in the College Football Playoff picture. Last season, he delivered on that promise in his third year with the program as they were the first team left out of the four-team affair.
While that still leaves some work to do for Fisher to reach his ultimate goal of winning a title with the Aggies, he’s well on his way to doing so. His past success with the Seminoles — where he won a National Championship, it should be said — was clearly the development of a formula that can win at any level and in any conference, even the SEC.
The talent that Fisher has assembled in College Station is quite impressive as he’s consistently had Texas A&M with one of the best recruiting classes in the country since he arrived. In fact, you could make the argument that the Aggies have their most talented roster in quite some time.
Fisher still needs to get past Alabama in the SEC West to take another step towards his championship goals but the talent he’s accruing and developing are getting him closer. With that — and perhaps with a bit of progression from a more old-school style of offense — will vault him into the top five.
