3 Packers veterans who could be cut this preseason
2. DE Dean Lowry
Many would consider 2018 second-round selection Josh Jackson a major disappointment after a promising rookie campaign. And he failed to pick off a pass in three seasons with the club. But the former University of Iowa product (via NFL.com’s Kevin Patra) was dealt to the New York Giants on August 17.
In May (via Spotrac), the club restructured the contract of a deal five-year defensive end Dean Lowry signed in 2019. He’s missed only one game in his brief career but has hardly distinguished lately himself on a Green Bay defense that has had its ups and downs, especially when it comes to stopping the run.
Could there be a change of heart in the next few weeks as the team adapts to new coordinator Joe Barry?
1. WR Equanimeous St. Brown
It’s a Green Bay wide receiver depth chart (via Ourlads) loaded with talent. And recently, the franchise brought back a blast from the past in trading for Randall Cobb.
Equanimeous St. Brown was a sixth-round pick from Notre Dame in 2018. Staying on the field has been a problem for the former Golden Domer. In 24 regular-season games and two postseason contests, he’s caught a total of 31 passes and reached the end zone just once.
St. Brown missed all of 2019 and with a wideout corps that includes Davante Adams, Cobb, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard, Devin Funchess and rookie Amari Rodgers, it’s hard to find a spot for the 24-year-old pro.
