Tom Allen has done a fantastic job at building the Indiana football program into something more than the Hoosiers have been on the gridiron in quite some time. A strong, turnover-hungry defense has played a big role in that but so too has the emergence of playmakers on offense, most notably quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and wide receiver Ty Fryfogle.

To this point in his career, the big issue for Penix has been health as he was limited to only six games as a redshirt freshman and then missed time last year as well. In 12 games over the past two years, though, he’s shown his exciting talent with 3,039 passing yards with 24 touchdowns and only eight interceptions to with four rushing scores as well.

Fryfogle has, without question, been Penix’s favorite target when the quarterback has been on the field. The connection between the two players is best exemplified in the three-game stretch in November last year in which Fryfogle tallied 25 receptions for an unreal 560 yards and six touchdowns.

With the hope that Penix is able to stay healthy, Indiana boasts one of the best quarterback-wide receiver connections in the country. The Hoosiers have another great opportunity to make some waves in the Big Ten and Penix finding Fryfogle all over the field will be a driving force for that.
