The Boston Red Sox celebrated a homer from Hunter Renfroe in the top of the 9th down 5-2 and the club should be ashamed of it.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Earlier this campaign, the Red Sox were looking like one of the best teams in the bigs and sitting at the top of the AL East standings. Now, after getting swept by the New York Yankees in the Bronx, Boston is in third place and the club holds a 69-54 record.

In Wednesday’s loss at Yankee Stadium, Hunter Renfroe blasted a solo homer to bring the club within 5-2. The Boston dugout then celebrated like they were up 10 runs instead of down three. The clip below really is tough to watch.

Boston doing its cart celebration down 5-2 was an awful look for the club

Red Sox fans have to be furious seeing this. Where’s the anger and fire from the players? Sure, hitting a homer is sweet, but to celebrate like this at that point of the night just seems unacceptable.

Boston hates losing to New York. The fact that they got swept in the three-game series just makes things worse. Now, the Red Sox are six games back of the Rays for the division lead, and one game back of the Yankees.

If Boston isn’t careful, they could open the door for a team like the Seattle Mariners to catch them in the AL Wild Card race. Imagine if things sputter so out of control that the Red Sox end up missing out on the postseason.

This team needs to wake up and do so quickly. Oh, and if they belt a late homer down three runs, let’s skip the cart celebration. There’s a time and place for it.
