3 Chiefs veterans who could be cut this preseason
2. DE Alex Okafor
As Frank Clark’s situation took a turn for the worse, the Chiefs brought Okafor back on a one-year deal just before camp started. In 11 regular season games for Kansas City last year, he registered 16 total tackles and three sacks. Injuries have limited him each of the last two seasons, but he has been good when healthy.
Even with Clark’s situation lurking without a clear resolution right now, the Chief look to be fairly deep along the defensive line. Preseason opener standout Tim Ward joins Taco Charlton, Mike Danna and Josh Kaindoh at end, and standout defensive tackle Chris Jones is set to be moved around the line more this year.
Okafor did not dent the stat sheet in the first preseason game. That needs to change against the Cardinals, presumably against a sampling of Arizona’s best offensive players if he gets that opportunity. If he only sees the field against backups/future cuts and/or doesn’t make a notable play or two, he will be lined up as another easy cut before the Chiefs have to trim their roster again.
