Lane Kiffin’s arrival at Ole Miss immediately invigorated the offense and now has quarterback Matt Corral in position to be a possible Heisman Trophy candidate. Moreover, the Rebels have relatively high expectations for the 2021 season as they are just on the outside fringe of the preseason AP Top 25.

For the team to take the next step, though, they must get more from their defense. While playing in a shootout every week is a thrill ride for fans, it also puts a ton of pressure on the offense to, in essence, be perfect if the team wants to win. Subsequently, Tywone Malone comes to Oxford with the opportunity to be a game-changer on the side of the ball that needs him most.

Malone is a 4-star recruit with a ton of talent as an interior rusher. Also a baseball player, he possesses rare quickness for a player who measures in at 6-foot-4, 305 pounds. It’s remarkable to see a player at his age with such sheer mass that’s able to move and explode the way he’s capable of.

While Ole Miss does have experience at defensive tackle, no one on the roster is as purely gifted as Malone. As the Rebels try to upgrade that side of the ball, it’s hard to believe there’s a world where the freshman doesn’t end up being a critical component of that mix.
