WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo was arrested for theft but offered a response through his legal council in an odd incident.

WBC middleweight boxing champion Jermall Charlo was arrested on Wed. Aug. 25, for a reported theft that occurred on July 16, according to TMZ.com.

TMZ broke the news in what’s being portrayed in countering ways by both parties. A restaurant stated that Charlo and some friends were dining and ready to pay the bill but that Charlo’s credit card was declined after several attempts to run it.

That’s when he lost his cool, as reported by TMZ.

“When the waitress came back to Jermall asking for another form of payment … the 31-year-old allegedly snapped,” stated TMZ.

Boxer Jermall Charlo was arrested for theft, but it looks like this problem will be taken care of in short order

“Police say surveillance video shows Jermall ‘being very animated’ and appearing to ‘be upset and yelling’ at the waitress and two other managers on the scene,” said TMZ’s story.

TMZ reported that Charlo took two billfolds from the waitress. One had his credit card and ID, and the other had cash from another diner. That’s where the theft charge comes in.

Charlo was released on bond.

Charlo’s attorney, Kent A. Schaffer, offered a rebuttal to TMZ.

“When they ran [Charlo’s] card, it was declined, and he then received a fraud alert from Chase Bank asking if he had made the charge,” Schaffer told TMZ in an update.

Schaffer continued, “He responded yes, and they told him to have the charge submitted again. The waitress went to run it again and came back saying she could not find the card. Jermall was upset that his card was missing since it was a debit card tied to an account with a substantial amount of money.”

Schaffer goes on to explain that Charlo took no money and offered to pay with another credit card after the fact.

It looks like this matter will be resolved in a matter of time but shows two different accounts with the truth embedded somewhere in the middle. From the accounts so far, it looks like Charlo lost his cool and that things escalated further than they should have.

Hopefully, all parties can settle this issue without any further drama.
