After he lost the Broncos starting job to Teddy Bridgewater, these three teams should trade for Drew Lock.

On Wednesday, the Denver Broncos decided on their starting quarterback going into the 2021 season. Teddy Bridgewater won the preseason battle with Drew Lock, casting the future of the former starter and 2019 second-round pick into doubt.

Sensing the rumors surrounding Lock, the Broncos have quiickly gotten it out that they have no intention to trade Lock. Of course intentions/plans can and do change, and between now and Week 1 a team could make an offer for Lock that can’t be refused.

Lock has shown promise, but he has also been inconsistent. At least for now, the Broncos have exchanged his higher ceiling for the steadier presence Bridgewater offers. That being said, keeping Lock around as the No.2 quarterback makes sense for Denver. It also makes no sense, from a leverage standpoint, to say they’re open to trading him.

As final roster cuts approach and roster shuffles ensue, these three teams should have a trade for Lock on their radar.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger may be in better shape, but 2021 feels like it will be his final season. The Steelers don’t have a clear succession plan, though former first-round pick Dwayne Haskins is making his case to be in the mix this preseason.

The Steelers probably won’t be bad enough to get one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2022 draft. So trading for the 24-year old Lock (25 on Nov. 10) makes a lot of sense, and it won’t cost more than a mid-round pick.
