Braves: 3 series we can’t afford to lose down the stretch
By Mark Powell
Braves should have an easy time in Arizona
A four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks is important because of the games that precede it. The Braves west-coast road trip will not be easy. They travel to San Francisco to face the best team in baseball in the Giants just prior to playing the lowly Diamondbacks. Ideally, things don’t go south by the Bay. But should Atlanta lose that series to the Giants, taking three out of four in the desert would help round out the road trip with some confidence.
Braves end the season at home against the Phillies
The Braves currently hold a 4.5-game lead over the Phillies in the NL East. Hopefully for Atlanta’s sake, things will be wrapped up by Sept. 28. But if the Braves’ lead is less than three games, then the pressure will be on to close out the division at home against their main competition.
It helps that the Braves have a day off just before this series. And even should they have the division taken care of, there’s a good chance they’ll still be battling for playoff seeding.
