Angels should just shut down Mike Trout at this point
The Los Angeles Angels are getting closer to shutting down Mike Trout for the season after his rehab from a calf injury stalled again.
Mike Trout’s injury rehab is apparently never going to end.
Just when it looked like the Angels outfielder was making progress towards a potential return, participating in on-field workouts in Detroit, he’s suffered another setback.
On Monday, Angels manager Joe Maddon revealed Trout “came up sore” after recent workouts, per Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.

The manager was candid about the possibility of Trout being shut down.
“We’re probably getting closer to having to say something like that, but he still wants to continue the fight and we’re going to honor his wishes,” Maddon said.
Maddon insists he’ll defer to Trout and how he feels about his injured calf.
“This is truly a time you listen to the athlete, listen to his body and try to make your best decision,” he said. “There’s got to be that moment where we have to start being realistic about it and just have to say ‘That’s it.’”
Will Trout be able to acknowledge defeat and turn his attention towards coming back strong next season? That’s a question only he can answer.
Trout hasn’t played since May 17 when he hurt his calf. He was supposed to begin a rehab assignment in mid-July, but that plan never came to fruition as he still felt something wrong. It’s the same story now. Hopes of seeing Trout again this year haven’t been lower.
It’s a shame because Shohei Ohtani is having one of the most memorable seasons in a generation. It would have been fun to see what the Angels could have accomplished with Trout also producing at his usually high level.
