Ozzie Guillen rips Cubs for mistreatment of Sammy Sosa

Ozzie Guillen really wishes the Chicago Cubs ownership group would treat Sammy Sosa better.

While he made a name for himself playing and later managing on the South Side with the Chicago White Sox, Ozzie Guillen is a bit perplexed as to why the relationship between Sammy Sosa and the Chicago Cubs is as fractured as it is.

Sosa was the face of the Cubs in the late 1990s and the early 2000s. Though he is connected to performance-enhancing drugs, Sosa was the epitome of a fan favorite on the North Side. While Guillen has nothing to do with the Cubs organization, he said the Ricketts Family treats one of its most beloved players like he is a convicted felon. Unfortunately, things are not improving here.

Guillen was incredibly blunt on how he feels about the fractured relationship between Sosa and the Cubs.

While there is no chance Sosa will ever be inducted into Cooperstown, he should be in the Cubs Hall of Fame. His on-field accomplishments may be tainted, but Sosa did give us one hell of a home run chase in the Summer of 1998. Without him and St. Louis Cardinals slugger Mark McGwire, who knows where the state of baseball would have been in the post-strike wake?

McGwire had his own connections with steroids and he was honored by the Cardinals organization. His run in St. Louis was significantly shorter than Sosa’s was with the Cubs. Even if you do not condone the use of PEDs in baseball, there is an inherent emptiness that comes when you think about how bad things have gotten between Sosa and the Cubs. Guillen might be right.

Time heals all wounds, but the Ricketts not embracing Sosa continues to be a black eye for them.
