4. Jeff Traylor, UTSA Head Coach

Traylor went 7-5 in his first season at UTSA last year, and the Roadrunners started this season off with a win over Illinois. After a long run as a high school coach in Texas, including a 175-26 record and three state championships over 15 seasons (2000-2014) as the head coach at Gilmer, he worked as an assistant at Texas, SMU and Arkansas before getting the job at UTSA.

Traylor appears to be building something in San Antonio, with his inroads with high school coaches in Texas sure to help him recruit. At first glance, it would appear the idea of leaving this early in his tenure is not on his radar. But if it comes down to it, the financial realities of taking a bigger job will be hard to turn away from if there are options out there. And if the Roadrunners have another good season, there will be options out there for him.

LSU may very well be willing to pay Orgeron’s huge buyout and move on. Traylor should be on the radar already as a replacement option, and if the time comes a search is not complete if it doesn’t include him.
