If Ed Orgeron is fired, here are 5 realistic options LSU could hire to replace him
2. Will Healy, Charlotte head coach
In 2019, his first season as head coach, Healy led the 49ers to a 7-5 record and the first bowl game in school history. Last year wasn’t as good (2-4), with nine games canceled due to COVID-19 and three losses by 15 points or more.
Prior to landing at Charlotte, Healy went 13-21 over three seasons at Austin Peay. But that record is misleading, as he took the Governors from 0-11 in his first season to 8-4 and a 7-1 mark in the OVC in his second season.
The 49ers opened this season with a 31-28 win over Duke, the program’s first win over a Power 5 opponent. Another opportunity to take down a Power 5 opponent will come Oct. 2 at Illinois, with a run of winnable games in-between (Gardner-Webb, Georgia State, Middle Tennessee).
The 36-year old Healy is in line to be a candidate for bigger jobs at some point in the not-too-distant future. After this season might be a little quick for him to make the jump, but as LSU considers all its options to replace Orgeron this rising star has to be on their radar.
