A 35-point win was exactly what Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats needed to get this year going. The Wildcats showed plenty of potential as they defeated the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks. Kentucky may not have the most talented roster in the SEC, but if they play like this all season, the Wildcats will win plenty of games this year. Kentucky hosts the Missouri Tigers this weekend.

It wasn’t clear just how good the Auburn Tigers would look in their first game with Bryan Harsin as their head coach, but the Tigers looked phenomenal to start the 2021 season. Harsin had the Tigers firing on all cylinders and as such, Auburn beat Akron by a score of 60-10. 50-point wins are always a good way to start a season. We’ll see just how good the Tigers look down the stretch of the season, but it’s hard to argue that the Tigers looked great in Harsin’s debut. Auburn hosts Alabama State this weekend.

Ole Miss hasn’t had an opportunity to showcase just how good (or bad) they are just yet, so they shouldn’t move one way or the other in these rankings. The Rebels are one of the most intriguing teams into the SEC heading into 2021, but they haven’t been able to play yet. The Rebels will play Louisville in Atlanta Monday evening at 7 p.m.

Gators . 4. team. 840. . . Previous: 4th

Week one was pretty smooth for Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators. The Florida Atlantic Owls were outmatched in their game against the Gators, which was to be expected. Emory Jones has some work to do as he looked a little rough against the Owls, but there’s still plenty of time for him to get up to speed with what Mullen wants to do on offense. The Gators will go to USF to face the Bulls this weekend.

Texas A&M still looks solid this season. The Aggies started the year off with a 41-10 win over Kent State, which was hardly a true test for this team. Texas A&M could conceivably be one of the best teams in the SEC this season as there is talent all over the field for the Aggies, but we’ll need to see them face some tougher foes before the Aggies move up here. This weekend, Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies will welcome the Colorado Buffaloes to College Station, which is a step in the right direction.

When looking around at how the SEC did this week, it’s clear that Georgia got the most impressive win of the week. The Bulldogs were able to take care of the Clemson Tigers, one of the most talented teams in the country. The game was sloppy and defined by defense as Georgia won by a score of 10-3. The Bulldogs will need to get their offense going when they face some SEC foes, but UGA’s defense could conceivably carry it to the SEC Championship Game. We’ll see if that’d be enough to win the conference though. But before we get there, Kirby Smart’s team will play UAB this weekend.

Another season opener for Alabama, another dominant win for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. Alabama looked just as good as ever as the Crimson Tide took care of the Miami Hurricane in Atlanta. The Crimson Tide won 44-13 and the margin of victory could have conceivably been larger. Bama will return to Tuscaloosa and face off against Mercer this weekend, a game that should also be an easy victory for Saban’s team.
