College football rankings after Week 2: No. 20-16

20. Utah Utes

It was always going to be tight in the Holy War, even if Utah should run away from BYU on paper. We’re not going to hold a close game in a rivalry matchup against the Utes as Kyle Whittingham’s team may not have the most talent in the Pac-12 but is looking well-equipped to compete with any team in the league.

19. Ole Miss Rebels

Austin Peay was never going to offer much resistance to the Lane Kiffin offense but the Governors offense did show a little something against the Rebels early. That spark was quickly extinguished, however, as Matt Corral and Ole Miss appear primed to challenge anyone in the SEC with one of the most explosive offenses in the country.

18. Virginia Tech Hokies

Things were pretty ho-hum for the Hokies in the win over Middle Tennessee. No one was overly impressive but they asserted their will pretty routinely in the victory to stay in the good graces of the college football rankings after jumping into the mix with the Week 1 upset of North Carolina.

17. Wisconsin Badgers

On the heels of their loss to Penn State, Paul Chryst had Wisconsin getting back to their roots as they just took the air out of the ball and pounded Eastern Michigan into submission. The Badgers have the goods to challenge anyone in the Big Ten but they need to keep finding their identity.

16. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

For yet another season, Coastal Carolina made Kansas look like the roles were reversed between Power 5 and Group of 5 teams. The Chanticleers haven’t been tested to this point but Jamey Chadwell’s team and Grayson McCall at quarterback haven’t shown anything to make fans believe they can’t go on a similar run to last season’s.
