AP Top 25: Oregon, Iowa make big move up in projected college football rankings
College football rankings after Week 2: No. 5-1
5. Texas A&M Aggies
Had the Aggies looked the way they did in Week 1 as they traveled to take on Colorado on Saturday, they would’ve been the team taking Ohio State’s spot in the top four. Instead, Texas A&M looked anemic once they lost Haynes King and the defense wasn’t as dominant. If King is out for an extended period, that could spell disaster for a team with legitimate Playoff hopes.
4. Oregon Ducks
We’re absolutely moving Oregon into the College Football Playoff spot of the top four after their win over Ohio State. No one ranked ahead of them — perhaps with the exception of Iowa — looked more deserving than the Ducks. This team was clearly just cruising to get to Week 2 when they skated by Fresno State and now they should be well on track to the playoff.
3. Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners seemed pretty intent on not letting an inferior team hang around for longer than they should as they did last week with Tulane. Granted, Western Carolina is decidedly worse but Spencer Rattler and Oklahoma showed no mercy as they hung 76 points on the Catamounts and didn’t let their opponents sniff the end zone all night.
2. Georgia Bulldogs
Any doubters about the talent of the Georgia Bulldogs are looking quite silly at this point. Even with JT Daniels out of the lineup, Stetson Bennett stepped in as the starter and was pinpoint and lethal through the air, tossing five touchdowns as Kirby Smart’s group was wholly dominant against UAB.
1. Alabama Crimson Tide
Is it considered a failure if Alabama doesn’t win by 50 points against a team like Mercer? The Crimson Tide weren’t perfect in a 48-14 win but they were also never remotely in jeopardy of getting into trouble. They did nothing to make anyone think they shouldn’t be the top team in the country still.
