College football rankings: How far will Texas fall in AP Top 25 after Arkansas loss?

Texas’ brutal road loss will have the Longhorns tumbling down the AP Top 25 poll in Week 3.

After getting a quality non-conference win Week 1 over Louisiana, No. 15 Texas was thoroughly shellacked on the road at old Southwest Conference rival Arkansas, 40-21.

For as weird as it sounds, the score was actually closer than the game was. Arkansas completely dominated Texas throughout the contest. The Hogs are really finding themselves in year two under Sam Pittman. While this was only Steve Sarkisian’s second game on the job in Austin, he must understand how much work needs to be done for the thing to get turned around right away.

While Texas is not going to be a top-15 team again next week, how far will the Longhorns fall in the next AP Top 25 poll?

College football rankings: How far will Texas fall in Week 3 AP Top 25 poll?

There is a pretty good chance the Longhorns fall out of the top 25 entirely. That is what happened to the loser of the equivalent of this type of game last week. LSU went on the road thinking it could beat UCLA handily and got embarrassed. The Bayou Bengals went from being ranked in the teens to not being ranked at all. Texas could drop out of the top 25 in Week 3.

However, that Week 1 win over Louisiana may still carry some clout from last year. Texas better hope so, as the Ragin’ Cajuns beat Nicholls State by three this week to get to 1-1 on the year. At the time of their loss to Arkansas, no other ranked team below them lost in Week 2. The saving grace for Texas would be brand recognition, as well as the Hogs getting that bump as UCLA did.

After losing by three scores to Arkansas, Texas should not be ranked.
