2. Jamey Chadwell, Coastal Carolina head coach

The Chanticleers and Chadwell landed on the national radar with an 11-1 record in 2020, including a win over BYU and eventual No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson. Now 2-0 so far this season, off a win over a Power 5 team (as much as Kansas fits that label), Chadwell is sure to surface as a potential candidate for bigger jobs as the season goes on.

Chadwell has built things quickly during his time as a head coach. North Greenville went from 2-8 to 11-3 and the Division II Quarterfinals in his three seasons there (2009-2011). After a 3-7 detour in 2012 at Delta State, he went 35-14 in four seasons at Charleston Southern.

Coastal Carolina went from three to five to 11 wins in Chadwell’s first three seasons. Winning double-digit games again this season is in the cards, with road trips to Buffalo (Sept. 18) and Appalachian State (Oct. 20) as their most difficult remaining games.

Coastal Carolina keeps giving Chadwell raises, as they should make every effort to keep him around. But at some point his loyalty will only go so far, as Power 5 resources are offered to him. Florida State should have Chadwell on their radar as a possible replacement for Norvell immediately, in case they do need a new coach.
