Browns double down on defending Ronnie Harrison for shoving Chiefs’ coach
The Cleveland Browns aren’t backing down in their defense on Ronnie Harrison, who was ejected for shoving a Chiefs coach on Sunday.
The debate between the Browns and Chiefs over Ronnie Harrison’s ejection continues.
The safety was thrown out on Sunday because he shoved Kansas City assistant coach Greg Lewis on the sideline after a play.
Cleveland players have defended Harrison while blaming Lewis for the situation.
“Obviously Ronnie can’t retaliate, you can’t be the second one in those incidents, you’re always going to get called for that. But we can’t have opposing coaches putting their hands on opposing players,” Browns center JC Tretter said per Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal.
“I would expect the coach gets held to the same standard, if not a higher standard than Ronnie,” Tretter continued via 92.3 The Fan.
Browns players say Greg Lewis has responsibility over Ronnie Harrison
All of this should have been avoided. Harrison shouldn’t have tried to step over Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the first place. It was unnecessary at best and an attempt to step on an opponent at worst.
That’s what sparked Lewis to shove Harrison off the running back and that’s what prompted Harrison to take a swipe at Lewis.
Both sides could have acted better but ultimately Harrison is responsible for his actions. His teammates can try to deflect the blame, but he got ejected because he made the wrong choice. Seeing Lewis ejected as well wouldn’t have changed the negative impact on Cleveland for the rest of the game.
What matters now is what everyone involved learns from the situation and how they act going forward.
