5 bold predictions for Eagles against 49ers
By John Buhler
1. Jalen Hurts will be a problem for the 49ers defense to contain all afternoon
If you are not aboard the Jalen Hurts hype train already, then what are you doing? He’s great, and he’s been great at the college level for years. While he may never be the elite from-the-pocket passer everybody and their brother wants at quarterback, Hurts will be everything Carson Wentz never wanted to be in Philadelphia. This guy is a gamer and plays with a ton of heart every week.
While the Falcons were pretty much a preseason team last week, Hurts will not have issues moving the sticks on the 49ers defense, whether that be with his arms or with his legs. Keep in mind the 49ers gave up a ton of points to the Detroit Lions in Dan Campbell’s first game on the sidelines. It should be noted that Robert Saleh is no longer the 49ers defensive coordinator, too.
As far as the stat line is concerned, that really does not matter with Hurts. What does matter is the great experience he will get from this game and the confidence Sirianni and his staff will have in him. Look for him to have somewhere around 300 combined yards of offense as Hurts does his best to propel the Eagles to 2-0 on Sunday. We may even think he is a franchise quarterback now.
While I will not guarantee an Eagles victory, they may not be the worst team in football after all.
