3. Trey Sermon will be starter worthy

The San Francisco 49ers got the best performance from a rookie running back this week. Fantasy players have been drafting a 49ers rookie in drafts in hopes this would happen. Of course, it was the wrong 49ers rookie that got the bulk of the carries, and the one everyone drafted didn’t even dress for the game.

Kyle Shanahan decided not to even play third-round rookie Trey Sermon in Week 1. He watched as his team took a big lead on the Detroit Lions, but then they almost coughed it back. Raheem Mostert got hurt after just two carries, and he announced on social media that he was going to opt for a surgery that ends his season over a surgery that could see him come back. That means the 49ers have to find a permanent replacement.

The 49ers took Trey Sermon to be a long-term solution at the position. Shanahan didn’t mind sitting him in Week 1 because he had Mostert on the roster to take the majority of the carries. That is until he didn’t.

Fantasy players all over are going to be picking up Elijah Mitchell in fantasy leagues after his performance in relief, but Sermon is still the player you want on your team. Shanahan is his father’s son, so fantasy owners will hate his running backs, but this week will be a good one for Sermon who faces the Eagles.
