Austin Reaves

The son of two Arkansas State basketball players, Austin Reaves lived up to the family name by pushing his basketball career even further than the collegiate level. Like Ayayi, Reaves is signed to a two-way contract that has him splitting time with the South Bay Lakers, but it’s likely the 23-year-old could find his first year as a Laker with South Bay.

But Reaves is used to leveraging his talent to level up: he started at Wichita State, then transferred to play for the Oklahoma Sooners in 2019. After sitting out his sophomore season due to the transfer, Reaves made a name for himself his junior and senior years at Oklahoma, taking Big 12 awards home with him each year. As a junior, he was named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team, then earned First Team All-Big 12 numbers his senior season.

While he’s an easy cut for the Lakers, his signing shows promise in a player that could develop into a future LA Laker.

Chaundee Brown

The only player on the list signed to the Lakers squad, shooting guard Chaundee Brown is still starting 2021 at the bottom of the totem pole with an Exhibit 10 contract, which is essentially a training camp invite. This allows the Lakers to either convert to contract into a two-way deal like Ayayi and Reaves, or remain a non-guaranteed minimum salary contract.

Like Reaves, Brown started at the smaller Wake Forest, then transferred to Michigan his senior season. Brown was an immediate start his final year, averaging 8.0 points and 3.1 rebounds per game while shooting 41.9 percent of his shots from 3-point range.

Another undrafted player in the 2021 NBA Draft, Brown scored big in a deal with the Lakers, but his career will be made or broken in the training camp that is to come.
