College football picks against the spread for Week 3: No. 15-11

15 Virginia Tech (+2.5) at West Virginia – Under 50.5

Understanding that playing a Neal Brown-coached West Virginia team on the road is never fun, Virginia Tech has proven a lot thus far, enough to where they shouldn’t be underdogs in this game. Their defensive front is a menace and they will be the difference-maker to help the Hokies come out with a gritty, hard-fought win.

14 Iowa State (-31.5) at UNLV – Under 52.5

UNLV is not a good football team and, despite what happened against rival Iowa, the Cylcones are very much a quality group. This will be a get-right game for the offense as Breece Hall should be able to run free whenever he wants and carry Iowa State to a decisive but one-sided victory, which is why the under remains in play.

Fresno State at 13 UCLA (-11.0) – Over 63.0

This line scares me but UCLA has been one of the biggest pleasant surprises to start the season. Fresno State can put up points and I’m worried about the possibility of a late touchdown for a backdoor cover by the Bulldogs. But all told, the Bruins are good enough to warrant my faith and say they win a high-scoring battle.

Purdue at 12 Notre Dame (-7.0) – Over 58.0

My gut tells me that Brian Kelly had a come-to-Jesus moment with the Fighting Irish this week and that we’ll see a fire lit under this team in Week 3. That said, the Notre Dame defense has left me a bit worried and Purdue can score plenty of points — just not as much as they’re going to give up to the Irish.

1 Alabama (-14.5) at 11 Florida – Under 60.0

Alabama is going to dominate Florida and make people question whether or not the Gators are actually any good. The Crimson Tide are a cut above almost every team in the country and the Florida defense won’t have enough answers. Furthermore, Emory Jones is going to prove once and for all that Anthony Richardson should be the starter as he stalls the offense too much to keep up or hit the over.
