3. David Gettleman should be on the hot seat for the Giants

The NFL is a results business, and the results speak for themselves. Since Gettleman took over as the Giants’ general manager, the team is 15-35.

With each draft, Gettleman has made a major questionable decision. Saquon Barkley’s career has been disrupted by injuries, highlighting the folly of taking a running back third overall and, while Jones’ performance on Thursday suggested hope for his development, Gettleman and the Giants have done an awful job of putting him in a position to succeed.

For an executive who has long since prided himself on having teams who win in the trenches, the Giants’ offensive line continues to be a mess. There have been signs of progress from left tackle Andrew Thomas early in year two, but there is a distinct lack of continuity upfront.

That is not something a team hoping to compete can afford, nor is the poor play-calling and coaching decisions that were there for all to see against Washington.

Having had a second shot at hiring a coach following Shurmur’s unsuccessful stint, the signs that Judge is the right man to lead the Giants back to prominence have been few 18 games into his career in New York.

Judge’s failure is Gettleman’s failure too. Gettleman shouldn’t get the chance to hire a third head coach if the Giants can’t right the ship.
