Heisman Trophy candidate No. 3: Kenneth Walker III, RB, Michigan State

There were certainly a number of things that went right for the Spartans in Week 3 as they knocked off Miami on the road but running back Kenneth Walker III was one of them. He finished the game with 27 carries for 172 yards along with three catches for 17 yards and a score.

En route to a 3-0 record for Michigan State, Walker now has 57 carries for 493 yards and six total touchdowns. He’s been an unstoppable force that no one has answered yet this season and has been good enough to rapidly climb the Heisman rankings.

Heisman Trophy candidate No. 2: Bryce Young, QB, Alabama

Though it was a bit of an uneven performance, Bryce Young did nothing to make anyone think he can’t be a legitimate contender for this award. In the win over Florida on Saturday, he was strong as he went 22-of-35 for 240 yards and three touchdowns, though he didn’t run much at all.

Young now has over 800 yards passing with 10 touchdowns and no interceptions already this season. And he’s also doing this for the best team in the country and has already played against two top-15 teams. That’s to his credit and can’t be forgotten — but what our No. 1 candidate after Week 3 has done is just that absurd.

Heisman Trophy candidate No. 1: Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss

The numbers Matt Corral put up against Tulane in Week 3 don’t seem real. He went 23-of-32 for 335 yards and three touchdowns, which is impressive in itself. However, the Ole Miss quarterback also rushed for 81 yards and four touchdowns, tying the school record for individual scores in a single game. Oh yeah, he also did all this before the end of the third quarter.

Corral is now just shy of 1,000 passing yards with nine touchdowns through the air along with five rushing scores. And to further his case, he’s also got the Rebels looking like a viable contender in the SEC, largely thanks to his prowess on offense. If that’s not the recipe for the leading Heisman Trophy candidate, I’m not sure what is.
