B.J. Goodson played for the Jets, got wise and immediately retired

B.J. Goodson needed a little over one week to decide the New York Jets were just not for him.

All it took was seven special teams snaps vs. the New England Patriots on Sunday for veteran linebacker B.J. Goodson to re-evaluate his entire life and abruptly retire from playing for the New York Jets.

The former fourth-round pick out of Clemson by the New York Giants needed precisely eight days to come to grips the Jets were awful. Yes, he may have liked being back in New Jersey, but the Jets look to be utterly flightless for the umpteenth year in a row. If the first Zach Wilson pick in Week 2 was not a sign that Goodson must exit stage right, what about the second? The third? The fourth?

Goodson played in 67 games for four different franchises over the part of six NFL seasons.

Obviously, Goodson is a grown man and can do whatever he wants. However, this is such a bad look for the Jets organization once again. They just hired a defensive-minded head coach Robert Saleh and a new savior of the franchise in Wilson. Unfortunately, the Jets are by far and away the fourth-best team in their own division. They remain among the four worst teams in the league.

With Goodson, good for him to walk away from a bad situation on his terms and into retirement.
