College football Week 4 upset pick No. 4: Kansas State Wildcats

Rank: 25 | Week 4 Opponent: at Oklahoma State | Time: Saturday, Sept. 25, 7:00 p.m. ET

Particularly considering their injury situation, calling Kansas State the most surprising undefeated team in the country through three weeks is not a stretch. This team was figured to be one destined for a bowl game but not much more. And they also lost quarterback Skylar Thompson to injury in Week 2.

Even with that, the Wildcats welcomed a good Nevada team to Manhattan, KS and beat them to a pulp last week with Will Howard at the helm. Of course, Howard didn’t have to do all that much as star running back Deuce Vaughn ran amok against the Wolf Pack. Whether or not he can do that in Stillwater, though, is in question.

Oklahoma State has not been impressive in the slightest on their way to their own 3-0 start. Spencer Sanders hasn’t taken a step forward as a quarterback and they’ve beaten Missouri State, Tulsa and Boise State by a combined 13 points. They’ve been on a slippery slop — yet they have talent all over the field on both sides of the ball.

Ultimately, this comes down to Howard. He’s a quarterback who is extremely limited in what he brings to the offense based on what he’s shown to this point in his career. And if Oklahoma State is able to just slow down Vaughn, that could be enough to carve out an upset win at home.
