College football Week 4 upset pick No. 1: Oklahoma Sooners

Rank: 4 | Week 4 Opponent: vs. West Virginia | Time: Saturday, Sept. 25, 7:30 p.m. ET

What in the world has Oklahoma shown through the first three weeks of the season that says they should be a 17-point favorite, via WynnBet, against a good West Virginia team? This is a team that, outside of beating up on Western Carolina, has won by one score against Tulane and Nebraska, neither of which is as good as the Mountaineers.

The Sooners’ defense is playing as expected. They aren’t on the level of a team like Georgia or Clemson but they are better than they have been in a long time. However, the Oklahoma offense just isn’t as bulletproof as it has been in years past. The line has taken a step back, the weapons are good but aren’t superstars either, and Spencer Rattler is still pretty raw as a quarterback.

That makes this team vulnerable, which is why they’ve played close games against inferior opponents so far this season. And if they play that way against Neal Brown’s Mountaineers, they could be in serious trouble.

West Virginia is competent on offense with Jarrett Doege and Leddie Brown, which puts pressure on both sides of the ball for the Sooners. More importantly, though, this is one of the best-coached defenses in the Big 12 and the best defense Oklahoma has played to this point. With their unexpected questions on offense, we could see the No. 4 team go down — fittingly, in Week 4.
