3. Clyde Edwards-Helaire makes a comeback

There’s something Chiefs fans, LSU fans, fantasy football managers and Patrick Mahomes all have in common: everyone wanted — and expected — this 2020 first-round draft pick to be better in 2021.

The lead back for the Chiefs hasn’t had a hot start to his season: he hasn’t broken 50 rushing yards in a game, his 13+ rushes got him virtually nowhere, and he was hardly a passing factor in either game. It’s a bad look for the second-year LSU product, but Week 3 could be the perfect opportunity to flip the narrative: The Chargers just so happen to have a troubling run defense this season.

Edwards-Helaire hasn’t been the running back he was in Baton Rouge, although his two monster outings in 2020 turned out to be big wins for the Chiefs. Edwards-Helaire got 138 and 161 rushing yards in two different games last season, both against terrible run defenses with the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills.

While he only managed 38 rushing yards on 10 carries against the Chargers last season, this season’s showing puts the Chiefs in a favorable position to run all over Los Angeles on their home turf. The Chiefs need a resounding comeback win, and in that, Edwards-Helaire needs a dominating performance that demands the respect of those who have all but lost faith in the running back. Patrick Mahomes picked CEH for a reason, and it’s high time he proves to the world he was worth a first-rounder.
