Okay, what’s up with hoopers missing a season and then coming back the next better than they were before? That’s what happened with the Connecticut Sun’s Jonquel Jones who missed out on last year’s WNBA bubble but returned and is the favorite to be crowned league-MVP and a Defensive Player of the Year candidate.

Jones had her best season with a career-best 19.4 points while leading the league with 11.2 rebounds. Behind the six-six Jones, the Sun boasts the league’s best record, best defensive rating and opponent’s field goal percentage in the paint.

From both ends of the court, Jones has been a dominant and unavoidable force. Her resurgence has the whole league paying attention to a Connecticut team that lost to the Mystics in the 2019 WNBA Finals. They, like the Aces, have their eyes set on overcoming the perennial hurdle that is the Seattle Storm. With Jones at the helm of their ship, they have a chance to do that.

Alongside Jonquel Jones in the frontcourt is another Maryland-native, Brionna Jones. The ‘Jones duo’ combined for 34 points and 18 rebounds this season while anchoring the league’s best defense. This trend should continue in the playoffs.
