Week 4 College Football Picks Against the Spread: No. 20-16

Nebraska at 20 Michigan State (-5.0) – Under 52.0

Understanding that this is an obvious letdown spot for the Spartans and that Nebraska has rebounded nicely since their disappointing season-opening loss to Illinois, Michigan State is just the better team. They have enough defensively to stifle Adrian Martinez and enough balance on offense to find cracks against the Huskers’ defense.

Rutgers at 19 Michigan (-20.5) – Over. 49.5

Sure, Rutgers comes into this game at 3-0 along with Michigan, but let’s not kid ourselves that the Scarlet Knights are ready to hang with the heavy-hitters in the Big Ten such as the Wolverines. I expect Jim Harbaugh’s team to keep riding Blake Corum and the rushing attack to a dominant victory with no fear of running up the score at home.

12 Notre Dame vs. 18 Wisconsin (-6.5) – Under 45.0

There are few things in this world I hate more than this point total. The under is lean because I have more faith in both of these defenses than I do the offense. With that said, Wisconsin has just done more positive things this season than Notre Dame, even if both have been slightly underwhelming, which is why I’m taking the Badgers at Soldier Field.

UMass at 17 Coastal Carolina (-36.0) – Over 65.0

Coastal was a big-time letdown last week against Buffalo but that won’t be a case against a UMass team that might be the worst in the country. The Chanticleers should move the ball at will and might hit the over on their own.

7 Texas A&M vs. 16 Arkansas (+5.0) – Over 47.0

The fact that Zach Calzada is getting faith put in him because he beat an awful New Mexico team even though he was just 19-of-33 in the game is baffling. Arkansas has been impressive on both sides of the ball this season and they are an easy pick as an underdog. I have them winning outright in a game where there are more points than expected.
