College football rankings: Projected Week 5 AP Top 25 after Clemson, Texas A&M highlight 6 ranked teams to lose
Projected AP Top 25 College Football Rankings after Week 4: No. 4-3
4. Oklahoma Sooners
Another Oklahoma game, another instance of Lincoln Riley’s team flirting with real danger only to get out of dodge with a zero still in the loss column. West Virginia was far from perfect but they made plays against Spencer Rattler and on offense in their own right to make it close throughout. The Sooners, however, used one impressive final drive to kick the game-winning field goal to make it, 16-13.
Still, for this team to get the respect as a College Football Playoff team, they are going to have to start winning more convincingly. They are playing in one tight game after another and, sooner or later, they’re going to get caught slipping. Oklahoma is lucky that time wasn’t tonight.
3. Oregon Ducks
Playing Arizona, arguably the worst team in the Pac-12, was a nice way for the Ducks to kick off their conference schedule, especially playing at home. Oregon probably didn’t figure they’d have to break a sweat but it was good to see that they took the Wildcats as seriously as they should so, unlike other teams in the top 10, they didn’t find themselves in any trouble.
Oregon is starting to get healthy once again as they head into the meaty parts of the conference slate and this team is looking good. You do have to wonder what the overall ceiling is of this team with Anthony Brown at quarterback but they still appear primed to run away with the Pac-12 and surely get a spot in the playoff.
