College football rankings: Projected Week 5 AP Top 25 after Clemson, Texas A&M highlight 6 ranked teams to lose
Projected AP Top 25 College Football Rankings after Week 4: No. 2-1
2. Georgia Bulldogs
You could make the argument that no team in college football has taken business quite like Georgia. They played Clemson to open the year and gutted out a gritty victory. They’ve also now played two games against SEC bottom feeders, including Vanderbilt this week, and have absolutely destroyed them.
That culminated in a game that was honestly sad to watch on Saturday as the Dawgs hung 62 points on the Commodores while not allowing a single point. JT Daniels made such quick work of Vandy that he legitimately played only one quarter. Georgia’s combination of improved offense and elite defense has them firmly in the national championship conversation.
1. Alabama Crimson Tide
There are plenty of examples in these rankings of teams that come off of big wins only to get a scare from an opponent they should beat. However, it would be hard to find an Alabama fan who was at all worried that Nick Saban would put his team in that position or that the players would come off a tight win over Florida and struggle with Southern Miss.
As expected, they made light work of the Golden Eagles as Bryce Young threw for 312 yards and five touchdowns with only two incompletions while the team also rushed for 198 yards on the night. The Crimson Tide have done nothing to suggest they shouldn’t be the top-ranked team in the country and this game was further evidence of that.
