49ers fans roast Jimmy Garoppolo to the benefit of Trey Lance
San Francisco 49ers fans watching their team play the Packers really wanted to see Trey Lance take over for Jimmy Garoppolo.
When the 49ers used their No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft on Trey Lance, they opened the door to a quarterback controversy.
Three games into the 2021 season, fans in San Francisco aren’t being shy about which QB they want on the field.
It’s not Jimmy Garoppolo.

The incumbent starter is getting roasted on Twitter every time he suits up for the Niners.

It doesn’t help that when Kyle Shanahan uses Lance in his red-zone package, he’s got a habit for finding the end zone.

Just play Trey Lance. If you have to take your starter off the field to score after the starter gets like 8 chances to throw it in and fails each time, a conversation needs to be had.

Garoppolo has been alright for the 49ers this season. He came into Sunday’s game with 503 yards and two touchdowns in two wins to start the season. However, he threw an early interception against the Packers as San Francisco fell behind 17-0. Lance scored the first touchdown of the game for the home team.
Garoppolo came back in the third quarter and pulled his team back within three points with a touchdown to Brand Aiyuk. It’s just clear to everyone that he’s a placeholder until Lance is ready to take over full time. The fans know it and they’re eager for the future to arrive.
It might not be fair to Garoppolo, but it doesn’t look like things will change any time soon.
