This offer starts with that first-round pick, and includes two more high draft picks. But it also adds a player in Washington, who is the clear odd-man out in the Steelers’ wide receiver rotation when everyone is healthy. It was out there he wanted to be traded during the offseason, in search of an opportunity to play more, but the two sides appeared to amicably put that aside before the season started.

The Packers have struggled to find a consistent No. 2 wide receiver to pair with Davante Adams, to put it mildly. If Jordan Love is the anointed starting quarterback for 2022 upon Rodgers being traded, and there’s no reason to think he wouldn’t be, adding some weapons around him will be an order for general manager Brian Gutekunst. Washington can easily be thought of, at minimum, as a better version of Marquez Valdes-Scantling who simple needs an opportunity to show it.

Washington is in the final year of his rookie contract, so including him in a deal for Rodgers come the offseason would amount to a sign-and-trade to move him on. But that’s a small matter of semantics, as two guys get a change of scenery they want and the Steelers remain all-in with a veteran quarterback–but one who has something left in the tank.
