Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 5: No. 10-9

10. BYU Cougars

Even with Jaren Hall out once again, BYU just keeps sticking to the plan and making wins happen. Baylor Romney was under center and he obviously limits the passing offense in comparison to the normal starter for the Cougars. But even against a frisky Utah State team on Friday night, it didn’t matter.

Running back Tyler Allgeier continues to be one of the best players in the country that not enough people are talking about. In the win over the Aggies, he rushed for 218 yards and three touchdowns on just 22 carries. He’s a veteran who offers another way the Cougars can effectively attack opposing defenses, which only makes BYU that much more dangerous once Hall gets back on the field.

9. Ohio State Buckeyes

Against a Rutgers team that gave Michigan a bit of a scare last week, Ohio State looked more like the title contender we expect them to be on Saturday. Not only did TreVeyon Henderson continue to show out but quarterback C.J. Stroud finally had the game that the Columbus faithful have been waiting for all season, going 17-of-23 for 330 yards with five touchdowns.

With the Buckeyes defense also picking off Rutgers three times on the day, this was a dominant outing for Ryan Day’s team. With how the rest of the conference is looking, though, we’ll need to see much more of that moving forward to believe they can climb back into the top four moving forward, especially now that Oregon, who beat them, has a loss in comparison.
