New York Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman tweeted his support for his former team, the Toronto Blue Jays, in hopes that the AL East team would make the playoffs.

With one Sunday swing, AL East arch rivals the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox have both clinched AL Wild Card spots.

Unfortunately, that means a third highly-ranked AL East team is now out of the playoff picture, something a former Blue Jay is heartbroken over.

Former Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman took to Twitter hoping for a Washington Nationals comeback so the Blue Jays would still have a chance at the MLB Playoffs.

Toronto fan favorite Marcus Stroman captures the heartbreak of a missed Blue Jays playoff run

Before Stroman was traded away from the Blue Jays in 2020, he became a fan favorite in Toronto. Stroman’s current team, the New York Mets, ended the season beyond hope of a late October  stretch. The Mets finished 77-85, putting them third in the NL East. The Mets fell far beyond the high-scoring NL Wild Card teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cardinals have had their own miraculous late-season push that finally got them into playoffs as a Wild Card team, but it simply wasn’t in the cards for the Blue Jays. Finishing only one win behind the Yankees and Red Sox, the Blue Jays ended 91-71. If the Red Sox lost to the Nationals like Stroman hoped, it would at least give the Blue Jays a chance to battle it out for the final AL Wild Card spot.

Despite the wild journey of potential 2021 Wild Card teams, all Wild Card playoff spots have been clinched as of Sunday night. The one hope that remains for the Blue Jays is that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. still has a chance at MVP.
